Global Civilizations

We have been gardening together since the fall of 2001. John sifts the soil and Lee grows the greens. We prefer greens and roots in the winter and harder stemmed veggies in the summer such as peppers and cucumbers. John looks after his worms and tumbles compost. Lee tracks the seeds and the work schedule here in the northwest Mojave Desert.

I suppose photos of family are commonplace on the web. It is my reaction that was noteworthy to me. I have long known what my brother and sister-in-law look like. I have also been vaguely aware of my grand neices. It is the usual (but for me, unique) astonishment of how they've grown and to see them all together. The experience is at first surreal. I have never seen them in this way before. I didn't even know what this file contained having not read the email first. I was in the download page because of photos my other brother had sent me. I suppose this could be dangerous as far as computer viruses go.

Nevertheless, there is my brother, his wife and two of their grand kids! Right here on my computer screen.

I have been reading letters about the early days of my city and they bring an immediacy (I see this blogger helps not my spelling it does) to history unmatched by any other means to date. See for yourself? http://digital.library.unlv.edu/boomtown/
