Global Civilizations

The intent of this blog was to show my progress studying the content of the Global Civilizations curriculum I helped produce in 1992. I expected to update it with current examples from my life as time went on.

We have been gardening together since the fall of 2001. John sifts the soil and Lee grows the greens. We prefer greens and roots in the winter and harder stemmed veggies in the summer such as peppers and cucumbers. John looks after his worms and tumbles compost. Lee tracks the seeds and the work schedule here in the northwest Mojave Desert.

Calendars, Time and Saving Light

The week before, the driver would have encountered the sun setting, not in his or her eyes, but still clear light at that time (5:30 pm). The next Monday, "suddenly" it is dark at that time of day. If it is a usual schedule, the driver would have been accustomed to a 6:30 pm activity, possibly something more relaxing than driving. Did the time change from Daylight Time to Standard Time present a psychological challenge to which the driver had not yet adapted? Did the time change present new physical realities in terms of light and darkness at that time of day?
Composite screen shots of the previous week, the time of the accident and how that particular application deals with Daylight Saving Time.
